  • Adaptive functioning

  • Behavioral functioning
  • Social functioning
  • Academic functioning

An evaluation for an Autism Spectrum Disorder also includes the two current “gold standard” assessment instruments in autism evaluations, the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS).

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS: WPS Version; Lord, Rutter, DiLavore, & Risi, 1999) is a standardized, semi-structured observational instrument designed to assess symptoms of autism in the areas of communication, social interaction, imaginative play, and stereotyped behaviors and restricted interests, through a series of activities designed to elicit certain behaviors.

Autism Diagnostic Interview- Revised (ADI-R)
The Autism Diagnostic Interview- Revised (ADI-R; Le Couteur, Lord, & Rutter, 2003; Rutter, Le Couteur & Lord, 2003) is a semi-structured diagnostic interview that gathers detailed current and historical information from the primary caregiver of an individual suspected of having autism. Functioning is assessed in the areas of communication and language, reciprocal social interaction, and repetitive, restricted, and stereotyped behavior.
